About this episode
Imam al-Ghazali considered theology (metaphysics) as the only universal science. It deals with the most general aspects of existence, and while revelation doesn't contradict reason, it may contain matters beyond unaided reason's reach. Theology establishes first principles for religious sciences and holds the highest rank. Traditionally, metaphysics was studied after mastering foundational arts and sciences. Theology, law, and medicine were advanced studies treating spiritual, social, and physical ills respectively. Metaphysics, studying existence itself, seeks ultimate causes and principles, making it the most universal science. No being or mode of being falls outside the scope of metaphysics. In this episode we explore what constitute the defence of faith - the missing fortification.
